Along the coastline, you can discover numerous megalithic sites <em>(Tumulus des Mousseaux, dolmens&#8230;)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-hrz-p--base has-n-950-color has-text-color has-link-color has-xs-font-size wp-elements-ec836e047c7db515cd1cfc9fd32fdd7d\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--m)\"><strong>Around 700<\/strong>, the Saracens arrived in the bay, followed by the Vikings!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-hrz-p--base has-n-950-color has-text-color has-link-color has-xs-font-size wp-elements-132eb437db1c1eff0e7ec539a4c18896\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--m)\"><strong>In 940<\/strong>, Alain Barbetorte repelled the Vikings, the town took shape and a fortified castle was built between Pornic&#8217;s 3 rivers <em>(the Haute Perche canal, the Dette and the Carcaud stream).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-hrz-p--base has-n-950-color has-text-color has-link-color has-xs-font-size wp-elements-b22b3470e9d1a8464920f57140fb2ab1\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--m)\">The name Pornic appears for the<sup>1st time<\/sup> <strong>around 1080<\/strong> in the archives <em>(Porsniti)<\/em> and 100 years later Sainte-Marie added the name Pornic to testify to the link between the 2 sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-hrz-p--base has-n-950-color has-text-color has-link-color has-xs-font-size wp-elements-554f76a283757ff999ec95a40a550226\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--m)\"><strong>Between 1360 and 1450<\/strong>, Pornic oscillated between the authority of the Duke of Brittany and the barony of Rais. A map of the Breton coast dating from 1548 has been found, showing Pornic as one of the Breton communes&#8230; the town struggled to find its place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-hrz-p--base has-n-950-color has-text-color has-link-color has-xs-font-size wp-elements-abec9dfc6b0223e29bf67a710748ac50\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--m)\"><strong>In 1581<\/strong>, the Baroness de Rais became the Duchy of Retz, which gave rise to the name &#8220;Pays de Retz&#8221; for this beautiful region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-hrz-p--base has-n-950-color has-text-color has-link-color has-xs-font-size wp-elements-90939dba74044c561549c02be8344343\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--m)\"><strong>From 1600 onwards<\/strong>, piracy raged, destabilizing Pornic&#8217;s economy.
