Discovery vacations in Loire-Atlantique
Discover the Atlantic coastline
Explore the Jade Coast and the charm of the Atlantic coastline
Between coastal walks, picturesque villages and maritime heritage, discovery vacations at Camping de La Guichardière plunge you into the heart of authentic Loire-Atlantique.
La Plaine sur Mer and Préfailles. For a long time, these two villages were one and the same (until 1802), yet their coasts are totally different! On the estuary side, you’ll enjoy long beaches with very little relief (such as Plage du Cormier, perfect for children), while on the ocean side, you’ll be blown away by steep coastlines, cliffs and a breathtaking view of the island of Noirmoutier. Don’t hesitate, get on your bike and discover the pretty coves between Préfailles and Sainte Marie, wild landscapes, real postcards: transparent water, dense vegetation, sailboats moored at the edge of the coves…

Visit Pornic and discover its charming old port
Enjoy a crêpe or ice cream on the terrace, or combine it with a coastal walk along the Sentier des Douaniers on a “non-beach” day , or in case of uncertain weather… or stroll through the cobbled streets to Les Halles.
For a long time, Pornic oscillated between the authority of the Duke of Brittany and the barony of Rais, and the town struggled to find its place. From 1600 onwards, piracy raged, destabilizing Pornic’s economy. It was at this time that the famous Halles couvertes (covered market) were built in the heart of the town to facilitate trade and commerce, as Pornic became a major fishing and trading port. From 1700 onwards, the Chemin des Douaniers (now a lovely hiking trail not to be missed) was built to monitor maritime traffic and limit smuggling around the corsair town!
A little trip to Saint-Brévin?
Between pine forests and long sandy beaches, discover superb landscapes with an obligatory stopover at Mindin, where its Serpent de Mer will fascinate you at both high and low tide. Look up… you’re almost at the foot of the famous Pont de Saint Nazaire, which has linked the two coasts since 1975. Before it, 3 ferries allowed people to cross “to the other side of the water”. It took 3 years to build, and the strong currents of the estuary did not make the work any easier. The bridge was inaugurated on October 18, 1975. With a length of 3,356m and a central span of 404m, the 720m-long metal structure held the world record for the span of a cable-stayed metal bridge for 8 years! It is 68m high to allow large ships to pass through to Nantes.
