Hiking and biking vacations in Loire-Atlantique
Between breathtaking ocean views, rich foreshore and charming villages
Routes for all levels
Looking fora dynamic holiday in the fresh air? Camping La Guichardière, located in La Plaine-sur-Mer, just a stone’s throw from Pornic, invites you to discover the Côte de Jade and the Pays de Retz from top to bottom. Put on a good pair of shoes and head for the customs trail (part of the GR8)!
Trot to Pointe Saint Gildas between sandy beaches and rocky outcrops, and discover the many seabirds that gather here to peck under the seaweed, and the very special flora of the seaside… Once you’ve reached the Pointe, take note of the breathtaking view (yes, it’s America!)! If you have time, take a short break to discover the semaphore. Even in bad weather, this viewpoint is well worth the effort.

Coastal paths, picturesque villages and unspoilt nature
Set off directly from the campsite (a gate at the back of the campsite leads directly to the first hiking trail), criss-crossing roads and paths at your own pace and that of nature, because you can’t see the same things as in a car, you can look everywhere and you can get to places that would otherwise be impossible. Like our fisheries, scattered along the coast to the banks of the Loire, these little huts perched on high stilts and equipped with a carrelet are typical of the region.
Carlet fishing has a long tradition in the region. In the early 20th century, fishermen used a carrelet (net) suspended from long chestnut poles. The practice of this fishing technique evolved over time, and was transformed into fishing boats without cabins. Then, to facilitate fishing access at high tide, pontoons were built and fitted with cabins. In 2021, the French Ministry of Culture recognized the “national intangible cultural heritage” of tile fishing. Find out more: our villages often have a communal fishery that can be rented out (for a family snack or a real fishing trip with friends!).
