Les galettes saint-michel
Do you know the history of Galettes Saint Michel? According to the brand’s website, they were invented by a master pastry chef named Joseph Grellier, who worked in Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef in the 1900s: “He possessed the secret recipe for round, melt-in-the-mouth, golden Galettes St Michel, which he lovingly baked in his wood-fired oven. It was in July 1905 that Constance, his wife, had the idea of selling them with her cart to the beautiful ladies of Paris, who came to take sea baths on the coast”. This was obviously a big hit with gourmands! We also learn that the seal on the galette depicts the archangel Saint-Michel overcoming the devil, but that Saint-Michel also refers to the Patron Saint of pastry chefs.
Take a tour of the Atelier Saint Michel and leave with the sweet smell of butter in your nostrils and a few typical cookies (here, we’re crazy about the big galettes with bursts of salted butter caramel!) in your luggage.

Does the kingdom of the mussel ring a bell?
In season only (and it’s a short one, generally from mid-June to mid-September), discover our plainaise mussels, 50% of the Pays de la Loire’s mussel production (around 200 tons a year)! Whether you pick them up during a spring tide, buy them in the mussel-growing zone (just a few steps from the campsite) or enjoy them at a “Fête de la Moule ” or in one of the many small local restaurants offering mouth-watering sauces to accompany them, you won’t want to miss out on them during your gourmet vacation.
And since you’re in the mussel-growing zone, don’t leave just yet: you’ve heard of spirulina? Spirulina is a magical algae that can boost any camper’s energy levels… It tones the body and stimulates the immune system. It balances the body and compensates for deficiencies thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Well, at La Plaine sur Mer, Hugo, a professional seaweed fisherman, will be on hand to help you discover the benefits of seaweed, as well as the different varieties harvested in the region (brown, red, green seaweed, etc.) in juice, tartar, or to add vitamins to a salad… if you’re curious to try it, then head for Ferme des Roseaux !
Oysters
You’ll find them on all our rocky coasts, even on the Mouton beach at the foot of the campsite– all you have to do is bend over (take care to respect the season and size) ! But the Baie de Bourgneuf offers an ideal setting in which to grow delicious oysters. Some 1,500 tonnes are produced each year in the Bay’s oyster beds by 700 oyster farmers, representing 12% of national production. At La Plaine, Bourgneuf or Les Moutiers, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to tasting them in an oyster bar, with or without a glass of local white wine! An unlikely craving at a time when everything’s closed? No problem, the André oyster company (oysters bred at La Prée) has a 24-hour oyster dispenser in the La Plaine area – yes, they do!
Located in La Plaine-sur-Mer, near Pornic, our campsite is the ideal starting point for discovering the flavours of the Atlantic coast and sharing gourmet moments with family and friends.

La Fraiserie, a strawberry delight
Craving strawberries? Don’t worry, it’s just a sign that your taste buds insist on not leaving the region without trying La Fraiseraie’s famous ice creams ! Started in 1970 by Joseph Maillard, La Fraiseraie has become a gourmet’s Ali Baba’s cave over the years. The Maillard family has continued to produce jams, syrups and inimitable ice cream flavors in the same spirit and with the same authentic values, and today there are 13 sales outlets in the region, including one of the first, in Tharon-Plage, just a few kilometers from the campsite. www.lafraiseraie.com

Curé Nantais, a cheese with character
In Loire-Atlantique, we don’t have many typical cheeses, but one that is well known and recognized is Curé Nantais! Plain, smoked and matured in Muscadet, production began in 1880 in Saint Julien de Concelle. Since 1980, it has been made in Pornic in the same family tradition, to be enjoyed hot or cold (smoked bacon and spice flavor). If you’re interested in how it’s made, you can visit the cheese dairy in Pornic(approx. 45 minutes), so make the most of this gourmet heritage. www.curenantais.fr
Guérande salt, an essential condiment in the kitchen
Salt, … the Guérande salt marshes will take you on a whirlwind of delicate flavors: coarse, fine, flowering, with chili pepper, shallots, … if you’re more of a sweet tooth, you won’t be outdone by flower-of-salt chocolates or a tasty salted butter caramel. But before you taste, visit and lose yourself in the vast grid of salt marshes. In the morning or at sunset, the sparkling basins take on incredible hues. To find out more, stop off at Terre de Sel, where they’ll explain all about their passion for salt ! www.terredesel.fr
